Built by two people who wanted to run a little hotel.
Kathy Setzer and George Reynolds bought an East Austin bungalow in 2008, meaning to open a bed and breakfast. Zoning nudged it toward something better: a seven-room hotel.
From the street it still reads as a house among 1920s neighbors. Behind it, a modern courtyard wing inspired by Palm Springs hotels and Spanish courtyards.
Trim from the original house was saved and reused. The floors are reclaimed wood, the courtyard is polished concrete, and the light comes down through tall skylights.
The walnut platform beds were made by hand by George. The walls carry Austin artists: Carly Weaver's grackles in the lobby, plus work by Darvin Jones, Alyson Fox, Stevan Alcala and Carolyn Porter.
